What is the Social Support Act?

The Social Support Act is a law (Wmo) within the framework of help and support. The objective of the law is to help citizens, so that they can continue to live at home independently for as long as possible and are able to participate in society. Municipalities are responsible for the implementation of the Wmo.

Together, the Social Support Act (Wmo), Long-term care Act (Wlz), the Health Care Insurance Act (Zvw) and the Youth Act constitute the foundation of the Dutch health care system.

The Wmo is meant for anyone who needs support at home, so that people remain self-reliant. The Wmo is there as well for people who need help participating in society.
